Yesterday morning, Mili phoned me: "Are you at home?"
"Yes..."
"I have something to show you. I'll be there in a minute."
Within seconds, she was at the door.
"I was preparing the anthus," she said, holding out the huge yellow courgette blossom which she had been getting ready to stuff with a mix of rice, tomato, and herbs. "And look what was inside! Usually I find an ant or two and shake them out, but this seemed a little heavy..."
I released him in the rain-spashed vegetable patch and he hopped away with a mellow croak.

This is a great story and photograph. I love the frog peeking out of the flower. That have been quite a shock:~)
ReplyDeleteYour photographs are truly stunning. I love how you use color:~)
Thank-you, Sarah :) He/She (?) was a beautiful little frog. There are many of them here starting at this time of the year, but the summer is so dry and harsh that I wonder how they (or their eggs) survive.
ReplyDeleteIt took me a few minutes to spot the frog, I was wow-ing over the size of the flower initially! What great photos.
ReplyDeleteHi Jess -- thanks for reading and taking the time to comment :) It was a big flower... They're not usually that big -- about half the size. A traditional CYpriot recipe is to stuff the flowers with rice, herbs, and tomato, and steam them until the rice is done. Yum-yum! Gotta take the frog out first, though!
DeleteOK!
ReplyDeleteYou got Kermit, all you need now is Miss Piggy!
Hlithie! We HAVE Miss Piggy! Bill has a beautiful brown piglet that he has called Beyonce... I just haven't written about it yet. Nor about the black lamb with the white tip on it's tail that he raised by hand and called Michalogiakkos... ;)
DeleteOh my!
DeleteGREAT GREAT picture and a great great story! Big chuckle here too, Asp, when I read about Miss Piggy (for a second, I thought you were referring to something/someone else ;-))) but only for a second, I swear).
ReplyDeleteHey Bridie (aka Margaux;))
DeleteGlad to see you here -- thanks for the kind words. A bag of flowers wilting on the kitchen bench -- Sophia and I were going to make them up and bond over it but we were very busy as the Irish Cousins have been here for the last week...

I miss you. I hope you come back to writing and showing your photography at some point:~)
ReplyDeleteSara! So kind of you to post that... I have been out of the loop for a while, addressing some health issues and also writing ones: for whom am I writing, and why? I never thought that anyone would actually miss me! I just read your dating piece -- hilarious and inspiring :) Well done!
ReplyDeleteI really miss reading about your life in Cyprus and hope you continue to write soon. Best wishes. Denise
ReplyDeleteI found your photo by chance and got to read through bits of your blog - your life and perspective on things are very interesting. Regards from Portugal.
