In the summer of 2008 I took my children to Greece. We left Limassol harbour for Rhodos, then worked our way up through the Dodecanese and the Northern Aegean to Thessaloniki over a period of six weeks using a variety of craft from cruise ship to caique.

What a great trip. Too many boats for my liking, but everyone looks to be having fun in your photo's x.
ReplyDeleteHi, Lesley! Thanks for stopping by :) It was a wonderful trip: I was not at all ready to come home at the end, although a seven-hour ferry trip with a five and a seven-year-old can be a little stressful. Too much 'exploring'! But we have lots of great memories and stories to share.
DeleteWhat a great trip and you capture it well with the photographs. I love the color and shapes in your photographs, like the red balloon in the first picture. It goes perfectly with the green of the water. The second picture has color, but it's the shapes I notice most. The half circles on the boat against the half on the cement path your family? is walking on.
ReplyDeleteThere's also so much to see in the photos. I was fascinated by all the hanging objects in the fourth picture, yet even as my eye studied them, it was drawn to the boy at the bow of the boat and then on to the hillside.

Sara, thank-you so much for your kind and perceptive comments! THere were lots of other things to see and photograph besides boats, and I was fresh out of a wonderful photography workshop in Crete. Unfortunately, chasing small children around (the younger two were 5 & 7) means there's little other headspace for photography, and I saw so many photo-ops pass by. Still, a wonderful trip and a fertile ground for memories. I would love to do another Greek trip soon -- it's a close and easy country for us to visit, and so varied!
